It's a fiction, not a moral treatise.

I'm a 27 year-old Instructor of Argument. It is my job to teach incoming college students that talking smack professionally is about having an opinion and backing it up. I teach young adults not only to have opinions, but to have a VOICE in their community and in the world at large. I inspire, I discourse, and I geek out.

I know I have a few people that follow me because of my political discussions, but you should know I also blog and reblog things for fun. I'm into fandom; it's part of my life. Don't be surprised if you see stuff about Disney, or kittens, or even my own artwork. Sometimes, I need to not be so serious.

In this world, not of it: Is abortion murder? →

savedbygrace2007:

I love how the people who hide behind the pro choice agenda use rape, miscarriage, health issues for the mother, and just about anything else they can to support their cause. They are like the tumblr anons and hide behind their screens to condemn those of us who value and respect life. Human life;…

First of all, I want to say I am very, truly sorry for your ordeal.

If you had been pregnant by a rape and you had made the choice to keep the child? That would have been your choice. Do you not see how damaging it would have been to you if someone had made that choice FOR you and told you how you were supposed to feel about it? (Or turn it around, if you would have kept the baby, I cannot fully imagine the anguish you would have gone through if someone forced you to get an abortion. But I have to think it wouldn’t just be because you view it as murder, but because someone ELSE would have been forcing something on your body that you did not consent to. I promise you, there is every possibility that for a victim who wants to terminate their pregnancy they would feel just as violated and angry as you would have in this situation if someone forced them to keep it.)

Some women keep a child from a rape and think it’s a good thing. Good for them, because it was their choice to make, and a needed part of recovery for many is to reassume control of their lives. Not all rape victims are going to feel the same way and it’s not anyone else’s place but theirs to determine how they should feel or act about it. Not all victims are going to view terminating an unwanted pregnancy from an act of sexual violence as murder. Any law that declares that a rape victim’s mental state and consent does not matter, that forces them to act in a way they do not wish to (regardless of what that choice actually happens to be, abort or not) is also an act of sexual violence against them.

This is why Pro-Choice advocates are called Pro-Choice. Because your choice, regardless of what it is, matters, and needs to be protected.
